Classification System
Bands are grouped into one of the following five classifications :
- Class A: 1 – 20 winds
- Class AA: 21 – 40 winds
- Class AAA: 41 – 60 winds
- Class AAAA: 61 – 80 winds
- Class AAAAA: 81 or more winds
Classifications are determined by the maximum number of wind players performing during any given moment of a band's field production. For example, a band has 55 wind players on the field during the majority of a field show. During the final moments of the show, the 10 front ensemble members set their equipment down and pick up wind instruments. The total number of winds during this show is now 65, which is class AAAA.
Any band may register into a higher classification, but not a lower one. Any decision to opt into a larger class must be made during registration. No changes will be made once registration has been submitted.
Bands will perform in Classification Order. Class (A) will perform first and proceed as followed through Class (AAAAA). The order of bands in each class will be determined by the time stamp of each registration. Each band will perform once. There will be no finals performance for HCMI.
