Mr. Grayson A. Martin

Henry County High School
Grayson Martin is in his second year at Henry County High School as the Director of Bands. Previously, Mr. Martin served as a band director and music teacher at Lakewood School and as an assistant to the HCHS Band. Groups under Mr. Martin have excelled in music performance. Including straight superior ratings at concert festival at the middle and high school level and numerous overall caption awards and class awards with the HS Marching Patriots.
Mr. Martin is a native of Glasgow, KY, where he was a member of the Glasgow Scottie Band under directors Mr. Calvin Douglas Smith, Mrs. Pam Yakel, and Dr. Corey Bonds. In 2021, Mr. Martin graduated from Murray State University with bachelors of Music Education - Instrumental. During his time in the program, Mr. Martin studied clarinet with Dr. Christa Frye and Dr. Amy McCann. He also studied conducting with Dr. Trae Blanco and had the opportunity to conduct a chamber group on one of the Wind Ensembles concerts. Mr. Martin has had the opportunity to perform in Murray States top ensembles, receiving many principal positions, including the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Ensembles, and Clarinet Choir. Mr. Martin was also on leadership and was a drum major for the Murray State Racer Band in 2018, 2019, and 2020. Mr. Martin was also selected to perform in the 2018, 2019, and 2020 Intercollegiate Honor Band at KMEA, one of the events top ensembles. In 2019, the MSU Clarinet Choir was invited to perform at the ICA convention in Knoxville, TN. In 2019, Mr. Martin was selected as the president for the Murray State NAfME Collegiate Chapter.
In 2022, the Lakewood 7th and 8th grade band was invited to perform at the HCSS Board Meeting for members of our board of education and members in the community.
In 2022, Mr. Martin served as the chair for the 2022 All-West Middle School Red Band.
Mr. Martin is an active member in TnMEA (Tennessee Music Educators Association), TBA (Tennessee Bandmasters Association), WTSBOA (West Tennessee State Band and Orchestra Association), NAfME (National Association for Music Education), NBA (National Band Association), WASBE (World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles), and ICA (International Clarinet Association).
Mr. Martin is very proud and honored to work alongside amazing co-directors and team leaders in their journey to creating a bright community with our High School and Middle School programs! Mr. Martin works to ensure all the students in the HCHS Band Program have opportunities to prepare them for music after high school and in life. Mr. Martin works to select repertoire and provide resources that come from all walks of life. Making sure that the music that is selected by the HCHS Band Program represents its' students.

Mrs. Samantha Veazey
Band Director and General Music Teacher, Lakewood School

Samantha Veazey is in her second year as the Band Director at Lakewood School and Associate Band Director at Henry County High School. Previously, she served as the Assistant Band Director at Walnut Grove Middle School in Midlothian, Texas.
In the Spring of 2020, Mrs. Veazey graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. During her time in college, she studied trumpet with Caleb Hudson, a member of the Canadian Brass. She also performed with many renowned University of North Texas ensembles, including the Symphony Orchestra under the direction of David Itkin, Symphonic Band under the direction of Dennis Fisher, and Brass Band under the direction of David Childs.
Mrs. Veazey spent her final semester in college student teaching in Keller, Texas, taking on many of the responsibilities of a Band Director at both the high school and middle school levels. Prior to band directing, she had many exciting opportunities in the realm of Music Education. Mrs. Veazey worked as a Field Technician for the Marcus High School Marching Band and University of North Texas Green Brigade, served as the Early Childhood Music Teacher at the UNT Child Development Lab, mentored low-income students in Denton County through Start Up the Band, and taught private trumpet lessons in Grand Prairie, Texas.
